Pokemon TCG Pocket Beginner's Guide 2026: Everything You Need to Know

Pokemon TCG Pocket is a mobile card game based on the Pokemon Trading Card Game. You collect digital cards by opening packs, build decks, and battle other players. It launched in late 2024 and has grown into one of the most popular mobile card games worldwide.

Unlike the physical TCG, Pocket is designed for quick sessions — games take five to ten minutes, and daily pack openings keep your collection growing without requiring hours of play.

Your first few days in TCG Pocket set the foundation for your entire collection. Here is what to focus on.

You get two free pack openings per day plus a tutorial pack to start. For your first week, open Genetic Apex packs — they contain the broadest range of staple cards. Pick one pack type (Charizard, Mewtwo, or Pikachu) and stick with it until you have a solid base of that type's cards.

Do not spread your opens across multiple sets early on. Concentration gives you usable decks faster.

Do not chase crown rares with packs early on. Focus on building a solid collection of rares and EX cards first — these will fuel your trades later.

TCG Pocket gives you a starter deck, but you should build a proper deck as soon as possible. Pick the type that matches the pack you have been opening — if you opened Charizard packs, build a Fire deck.

A good starter deck needs: two to three EX attackers, energy acceleration support, draw/search cards, and 12-15 energy cards matching your type. Keep it simple — consistency wins games at the beginner level.

Understanding how packs work is crucial to efficient collecting.

Each set has one or more pack types. Genetic Apex has three packs (Charizard, Mewtwo, Pikachu). Mythical Island has one. Space-Time Smackdown has two (Dialga, Palkia). Each pack draws from a specific card pool.

Two free opens per day — never skip these. Hourly bonus pack timer gives additional opens throughout the day. Event periods sometimes double daily opens or boost pull rates. Pack tickets earned from missions can be spent on any pack type.

TCG Pocket runs regular events with exclusive rewards. Solo missions offer promo cards, pack tickets, and cosmetics. PvP events test your deck against other players for ranking rewards.

As a beginner, focus on solo missions first. They are easier, and the rewards (especially pack tickets and promo cards) directly help your collection. Move to PvP events once you have a solid deck.
