Mythical Island (A1a) Complete Guide

Mythical Island is TCG Pocket's first mini-expansion. Smaller set, massive impact. Here is everything you need to know about A1a.

What is Mythical Island?

Mythical Island (set code A1a) is the first mini-expansion for Pokemon TCG Pocket, released as a supplement to the Genetic Apex base set. It features 86 cards with a focus on Mythical Pokemon — headlined by Mew EX and Celebi EX.

Mini-sets are smaller and easier to complete than main sets, but they contain some of the most competitively important cards in the game. Mythical Island is a prime example.

Key cards

Mew EX (A1a-029)

Mew EX is the star of the set and one of the most versatile cards in TCG Pocket. Its Versatile ability allows it to copy the attack of any Pokemon in play, making it a tech option in virtually every deck archetype.

Trade value is S-tier — on par with Mewtwo EX. The combination of universal utility and crown-rare rarity makes Mew EX one of the top five most valuable cards in the game. See our best cards to trade for context.

Celebi EX

Celebi EX is the Grass-type anchor that the archetype desperately needed. Its energy acceleration ability lets Grass decks set up faster than almost any other type. Trade value sits in the A-to-B tier range — strong but below the crown rares.

If you play Grass decks, Celebi EX is a must-have. If you do not, it is solid trade material.

Aerodactyl EX

The surprise competitive hit from Mythical Island. Aerodactyl EX's ability to lock down evolved Pokemon makes it a meta-warping tech card. Trade value fluctuates with the meta — it spikes whenever evolution-heavy decks dominate.

Pack structure

Unlike Genetic Apex's three-pack split, Mythical Island has a single pack type. All 86 cards are available from the same pool, which simplifies set completion significantly.

The smaller card pool also means your odds of pulling any specific card are higher than in Genetic Apex. Crown rares still have the standard low pull rate, but everything else is more accessible.

Pull rates

Mythical Island uses the same rarity tiers as Genetic Apex, but the smaller pool shifts effective pull rates for individual cards.

  • Common and uncommon cards: you will complete these quickly, often within 30-50 packs.
  • Rare cards: expect to see most within 100 packs.
  • EX cards: roughly 5% per pack, same as Genetic Apex.
  • Crown rare (Mew EX): approximately 0.067%, or 1 in 1,500 packs. See Pull Rates Explained.
  • God pack chance: the same ~1 in 2,500 odds. See our God Pack guide.

Completing the set

Mythical Island is the most completable set in TCG Pocket. With only 86 cards and a single pack type, focused opening will get you close to full completion relatively quickly.

  • Dedicate your daily opens to Mythical Island packs until you have all commons and uncommons.
  • Trade duplicate rares early — their value is highest while the set is still popular.
  • Mew EX will likely need to be traded for unless you are very lucky with packs.
  • Use the Collection Checklist to track exactly where you stand.

Is Mythical Island worth opening in 2026?

Yes, particularly for Mew EX. Even if you are not actively collecting the set, Mew EX's universal utility and high trade value make Mythical Island packs worthwhile. The set also contains strong supporting cards for Grass, Psychic, and Rock archetypes.

If you are a new player, consider splitting your early pack openings between Genetic Apex and Mythical Island. The combination gives you the broadest base of competitive and valuable cards.
